Discovery (on Tuesdays from 14th September)

​If you want to become more confident in sharing your faith with your family and friends or if you want to start helping with some of the formation courses in the parish (such as Baptism or first Holy Communion preparation) then this course is for you!

Discovery is a 6-week course designed to help us revisit the Gospel message. It will allow us to be able to share our faith and what we know to be true in our lives clearly and simply with others.

We will be running the Discovery course Tuesday mornings in person (11am-12.30pm, St Joseph's Church Hall​) and Tuesday evenings via Zoom (8:15-9:30 pm), starting on the 14th September.

​We can't wait for you to join us on this wonderful journey of re-discovery!

Who is this course for?
This course is for anyone in the family of the Catholic Parish of Guildford and parishes in the Guildford Deanery, who is aged 18 or over.
 
Discovery Outline
1 - God’s Love (14th September)
God knows and loves us personally.
2 - Love’s Initiative (21st September)
The Father takes the initiative to reconcile our relationship with him.
3 - Jesus Christ — Our Lord (28th September)
Jesus of Nazareth is truly God.
4 - Jesus Christ — Our Saviour (5th October)
Jesus saves us from our sins through his passion, death and resurrection.
5 - Love is Offered (12th October)
We are invited to receive the gift of salvation and live a new relationship with God.
6 - A New Life (19th October)
We live our personal relationship with God both individually and communally.

Introduction to the Old Testament (Hebrew Bible)

For the more academically minded, with time on your hands, the series of lectures by the Yale Professor Christine Hayes may be of interest and can be found here.
The lectures are well structured and engaging. There are transcripts available should you wish to follow anything up.
