What is Confirmation?
Confirmation is a sacrament which completes our initiation into the Catholic Church and symbolises the young person becoming an "adult" member of the Catholic Church. Preparation takes place when the young person is in school year 10 and above.
What does the programme involve?
The preparation consists of several sessions, after which the young person makes a commitment to the course culminating in a Confirmation Service in St Joseph’s Church.
The sessions will begin at 4.15 pm for a 4.30 pm start in St Joseph’s Church Hall, 12 Eastgate Gardens, GU1 4AZ (directly beneath the Church). At 5.50 pm we will all head up to the Church for the 6 pm Mass at which the homily will continue the themes we have been discussing previous to the Mass. So the Sunday sessions will run from 4.30-7.00 pm.
CONFIRMATION EVENTS AS PART OF THE PROGRAMME
Reflection Evening with Bishop Richard
Bishop Richard invites all Confirmation candidates to join him for an evening of Reflection and Lectio Divina led by Bishop Richard.
We shall be attending the reflection evening on Saturday, 3rd February at St John’s Seminary, Wonersh, 4 pm to 9.30 pm. This includes dinner at Pizza Express in Guildford.
We will be organising a coach. Cost is £20.
A national Catholic Youth Event in London with speakers, worship, and adoration, all in Wembley Arena. This event welcomes 10,000 young people in school years 10 and above.
We will travel down to London by coach and attend the event. We will leave at 8:30am from St Pius X Church, Laustan Close, Guildford GU1 2TS and arrive back at the same place at roughly 7.30pm (but we will ask the young people to message our ETA based on traffic and when we can leave the Arena that evening).
RENEW: Overnight Vigil
We are also looking forward to our retreat, an overnight youth vigil, Friday 15th (6 pm) and Saturday 16th March (11 am). It's taking place at St Joseph's Church and will include a packed programme of music worship led by our youth band, talks, adoration, reconciliation, inspiring speakers and Mass... plus yummy dinner and breakfast!
Cost is £5.
