The Guildford Catenian
Catenians are an association of Catholic men who are committed to faith, family and friendship. Catenians support the Catholic Church, young people and those in need. Life-long friendships are developed by meeting monthly and enjoying a varied programme of fun social events. The Guildford Catenians Circle was formed over fifty years ago and numbers about 60 members drawn from the parishes of Guildford and the surrounding Surrey Hills.
The Circle is highly active and meets on the first Wednesday of each month. Meetings begin with prayers followed by a roundup of administrative, financial, social and religious affairs. Afterwards, members enjoy dinner in a congenial atmosphere with opportunities to discuss business and family life together.
Friendship forms a solid basis for our Circle of friends, friends we can respect, trust and rely upon. These long lasting friendships enhance our family life, strengthen our Faith and sustain us in both good and difficult times.
Family is absolutely key, whether it’s our wives, parents, children or grandchildren all can take part. Highlights include special dining occasions for our family members, an annual clergy night, a Summer BBQ and a Christmas Carols evening. We also organise a host of other fun social events throughout the year including, countryside walks, visits to places of natural or historic interest and trips to concerts / theatres.
The Guildford Catenians support local Catholic schools in a variety of ways, but particularly through our own Catenian Bursary fund. This fund supports young people who want to go on gap year projects in developing countries or on religious pilgrimages. In addition, the Circle selects other charities to support each year.
