St Joseph’s is a strong, vibrant and diverse community within Guildford and the surrounding area. As many as 62 different nationalities worship here. In addition to the rich liturgical programme, there is a wide range of activities that aim to strengthen and deepen faith. The Youth Programme is a particularly strong feature of Guildford and the Parish is keen to take forward work on developing the pastoral needs of other groups within the population, especially older people and those who are sick or disabled.
There are 3 diverse Masses each sunday, the atmosphere at Mass is relaxed and informal but with a deep reverence.
8 am Mass. This is a simple Mass without a choir,a reflective, quiet celebration. It is also the only early morning Mass in the parish and local area.
11 am Mass. This Mass attracts a large congregation of all ages, including families. Worship at this Mass is enhanced by a choir. Children’s Liturgy takes place in the Hall in term time during the first part of the 11 am Mass. The children are taken out for their own Liturgy of the Word, music and activities. They return to join their parents just before the Offertory. Coffee and tea is provided downstairs in the Hall after this Mass, an excellent way of getting to know fellow parishioners. 6pm Mass. is very well attended and the congregation includes many students and young people. It has a contemporary feel with vibrant music provided by the 6pm Mass Group. People travel from beyond Guildford to experience the dynamic 6pm Mass.
